About

Who is Spencer Grant?

I'm a UX/product designer based in Frederick, MD. I graduated from Penn State in May 2026.

In my private life I enjoy listening to and collecting music, reading books, and spending time with loved ones. I occasionally get mad at my favorite team (GO RAVENS!!!), and in the winter months I sometimes let my snowboard return to its natural habitat.

Boredom rarely finds me. I love learning new things about the world and am eager to apply myself in a permanent role.

Career context

I have no in-house experience, instead I built case studies traced to research. My most recent freelance work is Vantar, a platform I designed and built solo. Currently in daily production use.

Background: digital arts and media design (B.A., New Media, Penn State), doing visual systems and interaction design before centering in on UI/UX. I've been working in Figma for roughly 3 years, I have 5+ years of experience working in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Process

The first three moves happen on every project. The fourth doesn't always, testing and shipping only reflect the projects that actually got that far.

1. Empathize

Frame the problem against real sources to understand existing constraints, research questions, and who's actually affected.

2. Ideate

Using research findings, I use AI-assisted concepting to get several directions on screen fast, then pressure-test which one actually solves the problem best.

3. Craft

I build a design system with semantic tokens and component states, design wireframes to interactive high-fidelity mockups.

4. Test

Not every project has reached this stage, but I know how crucial it is to test with real users to uncover design results and potential edge cases.
